This lovely garden apartment was originally four staff rooms and a corridor. After World War II, Johnny Mercer, the legendary lyricist, songwriter and singer, who won four Best Original Song Oscars, and 19 Academy Award nominations, stayed in this garden apartment on trips to New York. The Mercer family retained this home as a pied-a-terre until 1994.

For the past 25 years, the apartment was owned by another notable couple, quite involved in the city's cultural life. Located steps off Park Avenue, Millan House was built by John D. Rockefeller Jr. in 1931. A co-operative since 1947, Millan House consists of two separate buildings that are connected by a two-level Italianate interior garden courtyard, with a wonderful fountain and seating areas. Designed by architect Andrew J. Thomas with 57 apartments, the buildings are of general Romanesque character and covered with unique carved animal ornamentation. Pied-a-terre purchasers are welcome.
